It was that fateful day when two young musicians, Shankar and Jaikishan, met at director Chandravadan Bhatt’s office, in search of work. They did not get hired by him, but soon became the busiest music composers of their time. They struck an immediate friendship that lasted their life. Shankar was the mentor, music partner, guardian, guide, adviser, big brother and most importantly, a father figure to young Jai. For Shankar, Jai was his music partner, close friend and the younger brother he never had. Between the two, there never were secrets, but an abundance of mutual love and respect for each other.
Seen in the picture below is Shankar who stepped in to perform the ritual of ‘Kanyadaan’ at Jai and Pallavi’s marriage when her parents refused to give her away to the groom.
