From their debut making movie, Barsaat, the young musicians, Shankar Jaikishan were mentors to many. They encouraged and supported the newcomer, Lata Mangeshkar. Although she was a trained singer, SJ continuously encouraged and supported her.
Raj Kapoor had plans to launch his son, Rishi Kapoor’s career in movies. When he was making Mera Naam Joker, RK cast him as the Joker in his youth. Rishi stole movie goers’ hearts. SJ felt that there should be a song for the young teen. RK left the choice to them. The popular song, “Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye…” was cleverly adapted by SJ who introduced Mukesh’s son Nitin as playback singer, and what a song it turned out to be! Thus began both Rishi Kapoor and Nitin Mukesh’s careers in the entertainment industry.
Seen in the picture below, at the rehearsal of the above song, are (L-R): RK, Jaikishan, Nitin, Rishi and Mukesh. Looking on from behind are, sound recordist Minoo Kathrak and Randhir Kapoor.
